PRENATAL CARE

Visits are 45 minutes to an hour, and focused on what you and your family need. We talk about nutrition, exercise, normal pregnancy symptoms, how to prepare everyone for the birth and the new baby, and spend time just getting to know each other. Kids are not just welcome, it’s encouraged that you bring them so they can be involved – they can often ‘help’ listen to their new siblings’ heartbeat.

HOME BIRTH

Home birth is a safe option for most families. We bring care to you. You and your baby aren’t exposed to bacteria and viruses that are common in a hospital setting. You get to sleep in your bed afterward, with your partner/support right there, with your other kids close by. If mom or baby need care at a hospital, we move there. At home care is respectful at all times. Everything is explained and discussed. And by the time we come to your home for your birth, we’re not strangers – no worries about someone you’ve never met being there. And not having to change locations to a place strange to you and people strange to you during labor typically eases the process so that labor can progress unhindered.

WATER BIRTH

Water has been used to help ease the pain of labor for centuries. One of the best tools we have at home for labor and birth is the pool. My labor and birth pools are specifically designed so that they’re deep enough to achieve buoyancy of the belly – that’s what’s proven to be helpful with the pain. Birth in the water is safe for both mom and baby in almost all situations where it’s safe to stay at home for the birth. Babies don’t breathe until their face hits air, and most moms of water-born babies will tell you how calm their water baby is. The baby can make the transition from fluid inside the womb to fluid in the tub, and then to air – it’s easier on baby.

BIRTH CONTROL

I can provide a full range of birth control options. From discussing natural family planning methods to diaphragms, to birth control pills, to intrauterine devices and arm implants, I can discuss, prescribe, and place any of these in my kid-friendly office.

ANNUAL EXAMS

You don’t have to dread that ‘yearly’ exam and we don’t even have to do a yearly pap smear or pelvic exam any longer. It’s still a good idea, however, to come in for a yearly breast exam and to talk about preventative activities you can be doing to maintain your health. My visits are an hour, so we have plenty of time to get to chat a bit about what’s going on with your life (and that gives me great insight into how to help you stay the healthiest you can be). I truly want to get to know my clients so I can help the best way I can! And kids are always welcome (and we have toys), so you don’t have to worry about finding someone to watch them!

INFERTILITY

Not being able to get or stay pregnant is a tough journey. Having been there myself, I understand it’s a hard road to navigate. While I don’t offer more advanced services like intrauterine insemination or invitro fertilization, I can help get started on a path to figure out what direction you’d like to go to get and stay pregnant. Spending time with my clients to truly get to know them is critical to this process. I can order labs, semen analysis, and prescribe medications that can get your own cycle working as optimally as possible to achieve a pregnancy. I can also refer you to specialists in both complementary and traditional medical avenues when that becomes necessary.
